Communicating Science

Communicating Science

In today’s world, most aspects of our lives are influenced or even shaped by scientific discoveries and developments. This may lead to both exaggerated hopes and fears – hopes for miracle cures, for instance, that cannot be delivered in the foreseeable future; or fears that a “science gone wild” will cause harm. To dispel the myths about what science can and cannot do, it is important that scientists engage in an open dialogue with the general public and present their findings, concepts and plans in a comprehensible and accurate manner. Over the past 10 years, Ralf Dahm has been very actively engaged in a wide variety of activities trying to promote an accurate public understanding and appreciation of science (please click here for details).

Communicating science to specialist as well as non-specialist audiences is not easy. It is therefore equally important that scientists are taught to present their findings and talk about their science in various contexts. Ralf Dahm regularly trains junior scientists in different countries in how to communicate their work to different audiences (please click here for details).
